ABOUT THIS PRODUCT

Description

'Gabriella' is the perfect organic option for fall planting in mild areas of the south. The vigorous plant resists bolting and delivers a hefty 3"-12", jumbo-sized bulb that stores for 2 to 3 months. As a short-day onion, it grows best from fall to spring in the southern states, south of the 35th parallel.

When onion tops have fallen over and turned yellow or brown, they are ready for harvest. Harvest in the morning, lifting onions with a garden fork. Dry them in the garden in the sun for 2 to 3 days, lightly covering the bulbs with straw, or the tops of other onions to prevent sunscald. Cure onions for 3 to 7 days in a dry area with good air circulation. Once dry, cut the roots, and the greens to 1" to create a seal, preventing decay.

  • When to sow inside, in wild climates only 10 to12 weeks before your average first fall frost date. Transplant outside no later than 6 weeks before your average first fall frost date. Ideal soil temperature is 60 degrees F.

  • Maturity in 160 days
  • When to sow outside, in mild climates only late summer or early fall. Mid-October is the recommended, traditional sowing period.
