ABOUT THIS PRODUCT

Description

The Derbyshire Redcap is one of the rarest and critically threatened breeds of poultry in the United States. As part of our dedication to preserving rare breeds, our team is working to help save the Redcap from the brink of extinction in the U.S. Visit ourblogfor updates on this important conservation project. The Redcap (also referred to as the Derbyshire Redcap) originated in the Derbyshire region of England. Redcaps are active foragers which is fitting as they were developed in a region of England known for its craggy, mossy hills. Redcap chickens are known and named for their large and prominent rose comb which looks like a red cap. They are smaller-sized poultry breed. They are alert, quick, and walk with a confident and proud attitude. Females are reddish-brown with black spangles, lay slightly tinted, cream-colored eggs, and are non-setters. Males are reddish-brown with brighter hackle feathers and a lustrous black tail. Redcap day-old baby chicks are a reddish-golden color with black flecks or striping.
