The Ruger American Rifle is a good all-around hunting rifle at an affordable price point, making it a solid choice for someone's first hunting rifle, but it performs well enough that users of all experience levels can enjoy it. This edition is chambered for .308 Winchester rounds, making it a capable rifle for hunting almost any North American game that's smaller than a bear. The American features an adjustable trigger pull weight so that you can find that "just right" setting, a soft rubber recoil pad for more comfortable operation, and a free-floating barrel that improves accuracy and generates less recoil.
